About Me

Hi, I’m Brian — a Canadian-born web developer with a unique journey that brought me from the military and oil fields to helping businesses build and manage their online presence.

I was born and raised in Canada and joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2008, serving in Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. After completing my service in 2011, I transitioned into the oil industry, where I spent the next decade working primarily on pipelines as a sandblaster and industrial painter.

In 2013, I began splitting my time between Canada and Costa Rica. While my work in Canada was seasonal, Costa Rica became my home base — where I eventually put down roots with a home, a family, and a new direction for my career.

In 2022, I completed an intensive 30-week full-stack web development course and began working with clients soon after. That experience gave me a strong foundation in both front-end and back-end development. Along the way, I learned that even the most experienced developers use tools like WordPress to efficiently deliver quality, user-friendly websites — especially for small businesses, online stores, and organizations like churches.

Today, I run my own freelance web development business, building practical, professional websites that combine fast turnaround with reliable performance. I also help clients strengthen their digital presence beyond the website — offering organized, strategic social media management to keep their online activity consistent and professional.

While my web development experience is extensive, my approach to social media management is built on the same principles: structure, clarity, and long-term reliability. I focus on helping businesses stay visible and engaged through consistent planning, thoughtful content, and clear communication across their online platforms.

Being based in Costa Rica with my wife and kids, I’m focused on doing meaningful work close to home while providing dependable support to clients wherever they are.

 

Why I Build with WordPress

After working on multiple client projects, I quickly realized that WordPress is more than just a popular tool — it’s a powerful foundation for building real-world websites that clients can actually use and maintain.

Over time, I’ve learned the ins and outs of the platform — not just how to build with it, but how to avoid the common pitfalls that come with themes, plugins, responsiveness, and performance. I’ve made the mistakes, fixed them, and come out on the other side with a solid process that allows me to launch fast, clean, mobile-ready websites without cutting corners.

What would take someone weeks or even months to piece together without experience, I can now create in a matter of days. That efficiency comes from hands-on learning, solving real client problems, and knowing exactly when to stick with built-in tools and when to step in with custom code.

While most of my sites are built using WordPress, I don’t rely on templates or cookie-cutter setups. I bring in custom styling, code adjustments, and structural tweaks where needed — making each project tailored to the client, not just the software. And when something unique is required, I have the skills to go beyond drag-and-drop and build it properly.

Using WordPress gives my clients freedom — they can log in, make updates, or grow their site without relying on a developer for every change. But my experience is what ensures everything runs smoothly, securely, and professionally from day one.
